For her debut solo show, German artist Krowni explores intimacy, connection, and the multifaceted nature of desire. Using a saturated palette and playful compositions inspired by her photography, she examines the “stickiness” of human relationships—how they cling, bind, and leave lasting imprints, whether tender or firmly. In her works she weaves together themes of attachment, release, and vulnerability, offering a distinctly queer perspective on belonging. Grapes squeezed to release their juice evoke the tension between tenderness and violence; lips poised with aim symbolize the pursuit of fulfillment, grappling with longing and exposure. Elsewhere playing on the loyalty of a dog and searching for belonging though similarities such as matching outfits, the permanence of a tattoos and infliction of pretty wounds to heal more ugly ones, or the shared gestures between friends in the portrait series of “All my friends moved to Berlin” reveal how bonds are formed and maintained. Drawing inspiration from internet culture, sapphic history and personal memory, Krowni plays with subtle symbols and visual cues that invite an “if you know, you know” recognition. Her works navigate the dissonance between hyperfemininity, beauty, and pain, oscillating between intimacy and exhibitionism. STICKY tries to capture some of the complexities of human relationships—a sensuous, sometimes chaotic dance between connection and individuality, desire and freedom. Through her vivid, humorous, and tender works, Krowni shows the moments that cling, linger, and leave their mark.
